Disliked Traits...

Among the most disliked traits in people are hypocrisy, cowardice, and miserliness. A person loses half of their respect if known for miserliness and cowardice, so what if both traits come together?

Without a doubt, they completely fall from people's esteem. As for someone we know to be a hypocrite, severing ties with them becomes obligatory, as it is impossible to accompany their kind, let alone socialize with them.

Among the detested qualities as well are affectation and pompous speech (Al-Tafayhuq), whether through pretension of knowledge or through pedantry and overly elaborate speaking styles. Another is heavy-handedness or "crudeness/harshness" (Ghiladhah); these qualities are disliked wherever they are found.

No one enjoys the company of the overbearing, the pretentious, or the pompous. Whenever a certain literary figure attended a gathering marked by formality and stiffness, he would tell a joke to lively up the atmosphere and break the ice. May Allah have mercy on him.
