In moments of disagreement, whoever cannot make room for even a small act of understanding, or withholds a word of fairness or the warmth you deserve, is not someone upon whom lasting stability can be built. Likewise, the one who uses silence as a means of pressure and emotional harm, who shifts with his moods in dealing with you, or who persists in argument while knowing he is in the wrong—closeness to such a person weighs the heart down rather than bringing it peace.
Relationships that exhaust the soul are not measured only by the depth of attachment, but by the calm they bring. So choose for yourself what lightens you, not what burdens you, and keep the company of those whose presence brings reassurance in both word and deed, not disturbance within you
