When Time Speaks to You…

Today, we are called the elderly.

Yet age is not measured merely by the number of years we have lived. It is measured by the signs of Almighty Allah we have witnessed in the changing seasons of life, by the experiences we have gathered, by the trials that have softened our hearts, and by the passing years that have refined our character.

We were born into a world where life moved at a gentler pace. By the will of Almighty Allah, we have lived long enough to watch the world change its garments again and again, reminding us that change is its very nature, and that permanence belongs to none but Allah.

We saw letters take days to reach their destination, and then witnessed words travel across the globe in the blink of an eye. We watched our homes become filled with conveniences, while, at times, hearts became burdened with loneliness.

Cities have grown…

But has inner peace grown with them?

Travel has become easier…

But have souls truly drawn closer?

Knowledge has become more accessible…

But have people become wiser?

These are questions that progress alone cannot answer. They are answered only by a heart illuminated with faith.

Throughout our lives, we have witnessed moments of joy, moments of sorrow, and moments of astonishment, until we became certain that this worldly life never remains the same. As those before us wisely said:

“One day is in your favour, and another is against you.”

The farther we journey, the more certain we become that no one carries from this world a house, a fortune, or a title. What we carry is our deeds, our sincerity before our Lord, and every act of kindness we offered to His servants.

How remarkable life is…

It moves slowly while we long for our youthful days, yet it races past us when we imagine there is still plenty of time ahead.

We look back and childhood has become a memory. Youth has become a story. Old age has become our reality.

Faces we never imagined would disappear are now gone.

Voices that once filled our lives with warmth have fallen silent.

Companions who once walked beside us have gone on before us to the Home from which no one returns.

It is here that we begin to understand what we failed to understand at the beginning of our journey.

We realise that life is not measured by the years that have passed, but by the years that remain—and how we choose to spend them.

We realise that true blessing is not found in a long life, but in righteous deeds.

And we realise that the greatest loss is not the greying of the hair, but the hardening of the heart through neglecting the remembrance of Almighty Allah and allowing faith to fade.

So, if Almighty Allah has granted you more time…

Do not delay your repentance, for tomorrow is never guaranteed.

Do not postpone reconnecting with your family, for the one you intend to visit may become only a memory.

Do not withhold a kind word, for you never know which heart is waiting to hear it.

Do not delay an act of goodness. A small deed, accepted by Almighty Allah, may outweigh mountains on the Day of Judgement.

Let every passing day bring you closer to your Lord—not merely add another number to your age.

For this worldly life, however beautifully it adorns itself, is only temporary.

The days, however long they seem, are short.

The years, however many they become, are all numbered.

What truly remains is a sincere prostration before your Lord, a tear shed out of reverence for Him, a hand extended in mercy, a broken heart you helped mend, and a beautiful legacy left behind after your departure.

When the journey comes to its end, and the records of deeds are unfolded, people will not ask:

“In which era did you live?”

The question that will truly matter before Almighty Allah is:

How did you live?

May Almighty Allah make what remains of our lives better than what has passed, grant us a blessed ending, and make the best of our days the day we meet Him.

With best regards, Translated by the Smart Program.
