Every Gathering Has Its People and Its Discourse
Not everyone you sit with is suited to be a close friend, nor can every close friend be trusted with your secrets.
People and their gatherings are of different kinds:
Gatherings of thought and intellect: They require seriousness and composure.
Gatherings of comfort and affection: You open your heart in them, far from formality and affectation.
Gatherings for recreation and light conversation: You attend them to step away from the worries and burdens of the day.
Just as you choose suitable attire for every occasion, select for each gathering its people and its proper topics. For what stems spontaneously from the heart among loved ones is not necessarily what should be said in gatherings of calculation and strategy.
