Timid Hearts
Human capacity to read intentions varies greatly; while one heart expands with purity, timid hearts may cast their misgivings upon the cleanest paths, altering the course of an affection once thought unshakeable.
The affection between them flowed with delicacy and purity, like a rich spring washing away the dust of days. Our companion believed the barriers had fallen and their souls had bonded upon a firm covenant that no cloud could tarnish. Yet, human souls are deep mysteries; shadows of doubt lurك in their shadows, and anxious misgivings lie in wait, suddenly peering through the folds of casual words.
The other party began weaving suspicious tales in their gatherings, stories dripping with caution and mistrust, repeating them like one casting a stone into still water to test the depth of the silence. Despite the silent wound those insinuations inflicted upon the face of innocence, the friend chose to seek refuge in forgiveness, attributing matters to inadvertence and gracious disregard, holding fast to good expectations.
Until a defining moment arrived: a sweet word was uttered in good faith, seeking warmth and intimacy, only to be met with bleak coldness and a tone bearing a explicit accusation. Amazement surged through his veins like icy water, and the veils lifted to reveal a painful truth: the purest actions were being translated in secret through a dark lexicon of mistrust, and the white page had become, in their eyes, stained with illusions.
Waves of confusion crashed within his chest, leaving him before two choices, each bitter to swallow:
Either a stormy confrontation that would tear away the veils, sweep away everything that had been built, and leave hearts as unrepairable wreckage.
Or to swallow his grief and take shelter in noble silence, standing as a firm dam to protect everyone from a deluge of discord.
He chose silent bleeding; he folded the wound deep within his spirit and withdrew slowly, like a swelling stream receding so as not to overflow with destruction. He severed the steps of visitation that were once a delight, settling for the bare minimum required by duty, appearing in the eyes of onlookers as cold and distant, while in truth, he bore the bitterness of estrangement simply to preserve the peace of the home.
That is the lesson flowing like a river in its course: the highest form of nobility is to accept playing the wrongdoer in their misgivings, bearing the tax of blame solely to keep the roof raised, holding fast to Mu'awiyah's hair, and entrusting your secret to Him who knows the treachery of the eyes and all that the breasts conceal; for He alone is capable of washing away the grime of suspicion and granting justice to pure hearts.
